If it wasn't clear, this was about building secure, well crafted software. One thing I've realized while building White Noise (my Signal/Telegram replacement) is that it's not the kind of app where you can release half-baked early versions. There is a non-trival set of features around encryption and the privacy of groups & messages that is non-negotiable and must work well from the first real user. Yea this was just a video dump of clips I downloaded as I came across them. Not really meant to sit and watch from beginning to end, but easier than trying to find individual videos again on TikTok. Sometimes it seems that once you’ve watched them there it’s hard to find them again.

From “systemic risk” to “systemic control” - is ultimately the direction of travel - especially if you look at other avenues being pursued. Take CBDC’s for example - despite all the purporting to provide greater choice; flexibility in payments; security etc. and: “Any future laws on a digital pound would guarantee users’ privacy and also guarantee that neither the Bank of England nor the Government would be able to control how you spend your money.” Source: BoE website. It feels a little disingenuous to say the least; and that ‘they’ think all are naive enough to believe these assertions. Unfortunately - I do think many are - so not sure what the answer is, other than to hope that decentralised technologies outpace the governing bodies…which is very possible. #bitcoin #decentralisation #blockchain #techforgood

A bunch of proposals for variants of doing that stuff have been (and continnue to be) suggested. I don't know what is the best way (they all look flawed to me given that there is no single source of truth for what is the latest update on the subkeys of each person) -- but even with all that decided and solved I think it's a bad idea because it would add so much complexity to clients and/or relays that Nostr would essentially cease to work or instantly centralize around a single big entity that would become the central source of all truth and the almighty index of all events. That's why I'm considering these other ways.
