The Aksum obelisks are 4th century tall granite monolithic stone pillars located in the ancient city of Aksum, which was the capital of the Aksumite Empire in what is now Ethiopia. The Aksumite Empire thrived from approximately the 1st century AD to the 7th century AD and played a significant role in the region's history and culture.
Some of the obelisks are intricately carved with decorative motifs and inscriptions, many of which are written in Ge'ez, an ancient Semitic language that is still used in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church liturgy.

One of the most famous obelisks is the Great Stele, also known as the Obelisk of Axum, which stood at a towering height of over 78 feet (24 meters) before it fell and broke into several pieces. Efforts to preserve and restore the fallen obelisks have been ongoing, and some have been re-erected, contributing to the preservation of Aksum's cultural heritage.
