{"content":"I'm at Bitcoin Amsterdam, but spent half the day finishing some Signal-style double ratchet messaging.\n\nDeployed an experimental version on https:\/\/iris.to. You can create chat invite links and give them to friends via QR or other messaging. The UI is still lacking and glitchy, but just had to demo at the conference.\n\nThe chats cannot be publicly linked to either participant, and even if your main Nostr key is revealed, the content and existence of past messages stays hidden.\n https:\/\/image.nostr.build\/b4533acd973793f7114fd5c272ccd5b5045ea0bd127c214e8314fc4c8282a354.png\n https:\/\/image.nostr.build\/ded8c0437548cb1359d34b43b966b64f798cd2f98ae5f859771f47cc551cd5bd.png\n https:\/\/image.nostr.build\/4458f2de8f4d424aff137d2d7ed283dd27501e1abc0a43234405008614a5cb70.png\n\nAlso published npm package nostr-double-ratchet 0.0.1: https:\/\/www.npmjs.com\/package\/nostr-double-ratchet\n\nIt's not actually double ratchet yet, but the single ratchet already achieves forward and backward secrecy.\n\nThe second ratchet would help secure the latest consecutive messages by same author, in case a message key for the most recent of their messages is compromised. That makes disappearing messages or manually deleted messages more secure. I guess we'll have to do it so we can say \"Signal-level security\".\n\nThis is obviously not tested or audited yet, but probably it's not worse than normal Nostr DMs 😅\n\nYou can take a look at the source code, but I'll write a better technical description later. It's using existing Nostr cryptography + some key derivation stuff. Chat invites use gift wrap -like arrangement addressed to the inviter's temporary session key. https:\/\/github.com\/mmalmi\/nostr-double-ratchet","tags":[],"pubkey":"4523be58d395b1b196a9b8c82b038b6895cb02b683d0c253a955068dba1facd0","sig":"bf7526b127b776ee0c3b148be94a7f9e15a5baea0bbdc1d2d75c52003806f22d7e58f7355bedb0bc2264107c112387a8342ef9bf229ea1f83dd3c601e6c1eaad","id":"cb269c047392657426a91288172d79f6d05517dfa13aff33b62dafef00796457","created_at":1728488494,"kind":1}

Happy Birthday to the Neoclassical sculptor, Harriet Hosmer! https://m.primal.net/LQCj.png Harriet Hosmer, born on October 9, 1830, in Watertown, Massachusetts, was one of the first professional female sculptors and a trailblazer in the world of 19th-century art. From a young age, she showed a fascination with anatomy and sculpture, but as a woman, she faced significant barriers in pursuing formal artistic training. With her mother’s early death and her father's encouragement to live an active, healthy lifestyle, Hosmer developed resilience and determination that would serve her well throughout her career. She studied anatomy privately at the Missouri Medical College, a rare opportunity for women at the time, and eventually traveled to Rome in 1852 to train under the renowned sculptor John Gibson. https://i0.wp.com/imageamplified.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Harriet-Hosmer-posing-with-sculpture-of-Thomas-Hart-Benton-circa-1861_thumb.jpg?resize=662%2C1053&ssl=1 In Rome, Hosmer joined a circle of prominent expatriate artists, including Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Nathaniel Hawthorne, while refining her skills in classical sculpture. Despite societal restrictions on women artists, Hosmer established herself as a successful and respected sculptor. She overcame numerous barriers by sheer force of will and through the support of her artistic community. One of the main challenges she faced was the disbelief that a woman could independently create such technically demanding works, often leading to rumors that male assistants were responsible for her success. Undeterred, Hosmer consistently defended her work and continued to break ground in the male-dominated art world. https://m.primal.net/LQCO.png Among her most famous works is Zenobia in Chains (1859), a monumental statue depicting the defiant Queen Zenobia of Palmyra after her capture by the Romans. The piece, lauded for its strength and dignity, became a symbol of Hosmer’s own resilience and artistic power. Another notable work is Puck (1856), a charming sculpture of the mischievous character from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which was widely popular and reproduced several times. Beatrice Cenci (1857), a deeply emotional piece depicting the tragic heroine from Italian history, showcased Hosmer’s ability to convey both grace and sorrow in her marble works. Harriet Hosmer created several other notable sculptures that solidified her reputation as a master of neoclassical art. One of these works is Sleeping Faun (1865), a serene and playful depiction of a mythological faun in repose. This sculpture is admired for its attention to detail and lifelike representation of the figure’s relaxed posture, embodying both elegance and humor. The piece was celebrated for its technical excellence, demonstrating Hosmer’s skill in capturing the subtleties of anatomy and texture in marble. https://m.primal.net/LQCR.png Another significant work is Medusa (1854), an interpretation of the famed mythological character. Unlike traditional depictions of Medusa as a monstrous figure, Hosmer chose to portray her in a more sympathetic light, focusing on the humanity and tragedy of the character. This approach highlighted Hosmer’s ability to bring a fresh perspective to classical subjects, allowing viewers to connect with the emotional depth of her figures rather than simply their mythological identity. The sculpture further showcased her technical prowess in handling marble, particularly in rendering complex features like Medusa’s snakes. https://m.primal.net/LQCT.png Harriet Hosmer is considered a neoclassical sculptor. The neoclassical style, which drew inspiration from the art and culture of ancient Greece and Rome, was defined by its emphasis on idealized beauty, classical subjects, and precise, refined forms. Hosmer’s works, such as Zenobia in Chains, Beatrice Cenci, and Medusa, reflect these neoclassical characteristics, focusing on historical and mythological figures, with a clear attention to anatomical accuracy and emotional depth. https://m.primal.net/LQCV.png Her sculptures often celebrated themes of heroism, dignity, and tragedy, which aligned with the ideals of neoclassical art. Despite being a woman in a male-dominated field, Hosmer was able to master this highly respected style, and her works are seen as significant contributions to the neoclassical movement of the 19th century. https://m.primal.net/LQCW.png These "on this day" posts are inspired by my love of the greatest minds of the Western canon. BREAKING🚨 any hopes of a future slowdown in spending or debt accumulation 🙃 “Both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Kinda want to support the Nostr ecosystem. It's mostly why I'd want to try it.
My stupid worthless non-investable short-term predictions which are not any sort of individual advice: - The Oct. 10 US CPI will "surprise" many to the downside... "lower than expected!!" Soon thereafter: - The US dollar (which has recently been surging) will rollover and head lower - Interest rates (which have recently been surging) will rollover and head lower - VIX (which has recently spiked) will turn lower - Risk assets will resume their uptrend - #bitcoin will make bold moves higher... since the next leg of the bull market has officially begun (slowly at first, then exponential in 2H 2025) - Ironically, #inflation has likely already bottomed (as partially reflected in the coming low September CPI print) and should trend slowly higher over the coming couple of quarters
It is a nostr metaverse that is new. I will add chat features and more in updates. It is powered by proof of work

I am on a similar page to neil and hodlbod on this one. I think groups or communities can be done with 'regular' relays with auth (arguably already is being done).. nip29 from my perspective has relay side complication, and its unclear to me that what it accomplishes is any different than using a different kind# so regular clients dont repost those notes. super excited to hear about new clients coming up!! 🎉 i will do everything i can to support them. this is why i pushed hard to get auth going, it seemed to be a missing piece of the puzzle for more community, & dms .. if nip29 does gain traction/adoption/demand i will re-assess priorities for relay.tools at that time.
This is the CO2 causes climate change argument for free speech.
Because Monero IS a centralized hard forking shitcoin that makes people poor, you can have private transactions using Bitcoin, obviously I am not against privacy Lightning, whirlpool, joinmarket, ecash, paynym, take your pick Additionally many people who use Monero don't run nodes and broadcast their transactions without realizing their privacy is compromised by using someone else's node or swapping their BTC for Monero on compromised exchange, it's only "good" at privacy under perfect conditions, might as well spend that same effort to use Bitcoin privately
