# Brief review of some nostr android clients To #newbie guys that try #immigrate to #Nostr from #Facebook, #Twitter, #Reddit and other #centralized or #censored #network #platforms. Recently, I spent a couple of weeks doing tests on different nostr applications to help new users to start using nostr on android phones to enrich their social networks experience, I chose only few applications to speak about. It is not a thorough list for all nostr android clients. ## The fancy first: ### Amethyst: This app is good for general social interactions with lots of options, Use #Amethyst if you want a comprehensive look on what options there are in nostr. By default you will receive AI translated posts to your selected language, you can change this behavior if you do not like it. it give you the ability to connect through tor network for your #privacy, if you use #tor, please do not do it for bad actions. it seems like nothing of the basics of nostr functionality is missing, it have all NIPs features of nostr. Install it from [[google play store]](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vitorpamplona.amethyst) ### Primal: Good for long reading/publishing articles, I guess people who like #Medium and alike will love it. It touches like Amethyst but it is made for more serious readers and writers. It is open source, you can install #Primal from [[IzzyOnDroid]]( https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/net.primal.android), or [[direct link to current version]](https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/repo/net.primal.android_239.apk) ### YakiHonne: Similar to Primal, I find it good for long reading/publishing articles, #YakiHonne have few extra posting options like smart widgets. It is on [[google store]]( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yakihonne.yakihonne) That was the best three (in my limited tests). #### Advice If you write for #sats (the tiny fractions of #bitcoin) then #Amethyst and # YakiHonne will give you the ability to lock some of your published content until the reader pay some invoice, I do not recommend this method for gaining zaps (the operation of gaining sats), I advice you to allow people to decide if they want to zap you AFTER they read your content, this is more healthy and suitable for an open minded network like nostr. Actually, #Primal and # YakiHonne look more prepared for publishing quality long articles, and for zapping good writers . ## Now let us look to few other apps with less options but will be enough for #newbies: ### FreeFrom: Built to give some twitter taste and touch, add a lot of relays and you will receive a lot of tweets from everywhere, in nostr you will have to call tweets as notes, if you where addicted to twitter then just start following nostr people of the same interests of yours and with time you will feel like home. You can install #FreeFrom from [[google store]]( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freefrom) ### Nostros: I like it because it came from my beloved apk source, the #open-source #f-droid.org, the special thing in #Nostros is that It can download your published notes to local disk, and believe me, this is something you'll need if you are going to become a professional writer, especially if you plan to edit or republish your articles and posts. I had to stop most relays, then add my relay set to get rid of the languages I do not understand. Install #Wherostr from [[google store]](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=th.co.mapboss.wherostr.social.wherostr_social). ### Voyage: Is my forth suggestion for nostr beginners, it have intermediate/enough functionality, when you start using #Voyage it will offer you a group of popular topics in the form of #hashtags to choose from and follow. As an open source you can find it on [[this page]](https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/com.dluvian.voyage), or [[direct link]]( https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/repo/com.dluvian.voyage_24.apk) These last applications are good for you if you have an old slow android, or if you just do not want to confuse yourself with a lot of options that you will not need as a #beginner. ## More apps: ### Openvibe: If you are using #Mastodon, #Threads or #Bluesky, then start with #Openvibe to use all your accounts together with a nostr account in one app. It is on [[google store]]( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plebstr.client). ### 0xChat: Is made for chat and calls, it supports audio/video calls. #0xChat is good for you if you are a regular #xmpp user. Its page on [[github]]( https://github.com/0xchat-app/0xchat-app-main), [[direct link to apk]]( https://github.com/0xchat-app/0xchat-app-main/releases/download/v1.4.9-release/v1.4.9-release.apk) for finding few more apps go to #zapstore [[website]]( https://zapstore.dev/) Important thing to know: non of these apps will give you full functionality unless you add more relays to reach more content, but the default included relays will show you what nostr is, and you will not feel the loss if you later learned how to increase your #reachability. Because of built-in #monetization for user zapped articles I think #nostr is already a respected competitor to all of: #Substack, #WordPress.org #Blogger #Wix #Ghost #Vocal.media #Sigle #Hashnode #WriteFreely #Squarespace #Weebly #Kajabi #Dev_Community #Quora #LinkedIn #Super #Bullet.so. Actually I find it a good idea for new publishing platforms to build on nostr as it have the needed functionality and the development potential of its protocol to offer all needed options to the future of publishing. You should know that your account is your property and you own it regardless of the application you choose to create your account with, just keep your private key secure and feel safe because your account is secure, in other words your account is your secure key. Any time you can uninstall your app and go to another with your very same account, just start a new nostr application and give it your private (secure) key, then -if not included- add the relay (server) you publish on, that's it, now you are using your account with the new functions that the new app offer. Shares in Equinor, which is mostly reliant on oil and gas, rose on the news.  Denmark's Orsted, the world's largest offshore wind farm developer, which is constructing two plants off the coast of the United States, saw its shares jump by 15%.  U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, who had issued the stop order on Empire Wind on April 16, said he was encouraged that New York Governor Kathy Hochul will now allow new gas pipeline capacity to move forward. The deal could revive plans to build the proposed Constitution natural gas pipeline from Pennsylvania to New York, which was cancelled in 2020 after years of regulatory and legal battles over environmental and other concerns. "Americans who live in New York and New England would see significant economic benefits and lower utility costs from increased access to reliable, affordable, clean American natural gas," Burgum wrote in a post on X on Monday. Hochul in a statement said New York would work with the U.S. administration and private entities on projects that meet the legal requirements under New York law. "The road ahead for the Constitution Pipeline remains bumpy, but the broad strokes of a logical deal could be a win-win for end users," analysts at energy consulting firm EBW Analytics said in a note. Officials at U.S. energy firm Williams Cos, one of Constitution Pipeline's joint venture partners, were not immediately available for comment. With U.S. President Donald Trump back in office and voicing his support for the Constitution project, executives at Williams have said the company was looking at dusting off plans for the pipeline under the right circumstances. Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg, a former NATO chief who had discussed Equinor's case with U.S. policymakers, said the deal to unblock the wind farm was ultimately a matter to be settled between U.S. authorities. "This is an agreement about natural gas and wind made in the United States," Stoltenberg told reporters in Oslo. More broadly, he said the reversal was good news for investors in the U.S. as the stop-work order threatened to create uncertainty after permits had been granted by U.S. authorities. Equinor had warned it stood to lose billions of dollars due to the order which sent shockwaves through the offshore wind industry, raising concerns that fully permitted developments representing billions in investment are not safe. "This was an extraordinary situation where a fully concepted and approved project was stopped. I take it as a very positive sign that explaining the facts of this has changed the position," Equinor CEO Anders Opedal told Reuters. Officials from the U.S. Interior Department, who in issuing the stop-work order said the former Biden administration had rushed the project's approval without sufficient environmental analysis, were not immediately available for comment. Opedal said Equinor would give an update on the financial consequences of the delay when reporting second-quarter results on July 23. Equinor, which had warned it was spending $50 million weekly to keep the project afloat during the suspension, said it would now work with suppliers and regulatory bodies to minimise the impact of the delay. Equinor purchased the Empire Wind lease during Trump's first administration in 2017, and the 810-megawatt project was approved under former President Joe Biden in 2023. The project, which will use wind turbines from Vestas is 30% complete, according to the company. Trump has vowed to expand domestic energy production but wind is excluded from that effort. He issued an executive order on his first day in office, pausing new leasing and permitting of wind projects, which he says are ugly, expensive and harmful to wildlife. An industry group praised the lifting of the stop-work order. "The administration is clearing the way for major investments to move forward - activating American shipyards, creating high-quality jobs, and accelerating the build out of infrastructure needed to deliver reliable, domestic energy," National Ocean Industries Association President Erik Milito said in a statement.
