The reason we ascribe surreptitious gift-giving with Santa Claus is rooted in a story about St. Nicholas. A poor father could not afford the dowry for his 3 daughters. Without husbands, women of that place and time were destined for the sex trade. St Nicholas, once wealthy, but now under a vow of poverty, offloaded some of his gold over the course of three nights, by tossing it through windows and down the chimney of the poor father's house. SO. Never forget that without sex trafficking, we wouldn't have Christmas gift giving.
