People are not good with very large and very small numbers. Two decimal places (like dollars/cents) is OK. Three places (thousands) generally OK. People have a hard time with numbers significantly larger or smaller. 100,000,000 0.00000001 These numbers have too many digits to be reasoned about by most people effectively. Most people are innumerate.
