Carved straight into a hillside near the village of Apollonas, it dates back to the 6th century BC and measures an impressive 10.7 meters (35 feet). While it's generally thought to depict either the god Apollo or Dionysus, its true identity remains unclear. The statue was abandoned in its quarry after a crack appeared during its creation, making it impossible to finish or transport. Despite being incomplete, the Kouros still offers a fascinating glimpse into the marble-carving techniques of the ancient Greeks, reflecting their bold ambitions and skill even in their uncompleted works.
