Messing around with repurposing a 1U rack mount appliance. I took the original motherboard out of it and am now testing a Intel Ivy Bridge ITX motherboard with dual ethernet. If all does well, this will become my replacement pfSense router to be installed in server rack instead of the old Dell Optiplex I have on a shelf right now. I have a few challenges, such as getting a CPU cooler that fits in the 1U tall case. I found a low power Intel i3-3220T 35W TDP processor and tested to make sure that works in it. I have two 2GB 10600 memory modules. Anyone know if the 12800L (low power) modules really consume a noticeable amount less power? I probably have some 12800L modules around here somewhere, so may end up putting those in anyway. #pfsense #rack #hardware
