It's a better metaphor than you think because it seems obvious in hindsight but the real innovation was flat, smooth surfaces on all pedestrian areas. It took centuries of infrastructure and technological development that everybody now ignores because that's "just how airports are." Same with bitcoin. We're still in the horse and carriage phase.
