I never count on the State for help. You really shouldn't either. It is easy in a disaster to imagine the US government sweeping in to solve everything because it is so powerful. But we see that it is not. You have to look after yourself and your family. In disasters it is easy to rack up big fiat numbers of damage too. Well remember the reason why those numbers grow each year is not because more damage occurs per se it is because of inflation and the building in areas that don't need intense human development. Climate change isn't responsible for known 100 or 300 year flood zones, fault lines, forest fires, tornado paths etc. The earth is old and historic changes are way more dramatic than a single hurricane. We imagine the world to be a static environment because it is what we have by an large experienced but we are silly little humans who don't know much at all and can be easily swept away into the dustbin of cosmic forces.
