My understanding is that the host-read spots are worth a LOT more to sponsors than pre-recorded commercials from others. On the Media just did a podcast talking about how they're adding those kinds of spots specifically because of the economic benefit. I find that the skip-30 button usually is enough for me to get past ads without getting too annoyed these days.
