German Economy Stagnates: Sentix Index Reveals Deepening Recession
The Sentix economic sentiment indicator for Germany has slightly declined in January, signaling a persistent recessionary grip. The index dropped to -33.3 points from December's -33.2, while the situation assessment remains static at 50.8 points. However, expectations have dimmed, with the index sliding to -13.8 points from -13.5.
"Sentix data continues to indicate that the German economy is firmly entrenched in a recession, with no quick turnaround in sight," notes Manfred Hübner, CEO of Sentix, in a recent statement.
For the Eurozone, the sentiment index also fell, reaching -17.7 points from -17.5, with the current situation index worsening to -29.5 from -28.5. Meanwhile, expectations slightly improved to -5.0 from -5.8 points.
Hübner commented, "It's clear that Germany's economic weakness is dragging down the entire Eurozone. The country's recession acts like a lead weight, stifling any upward momentum."
